SUNSET FROM MY WINDOW
Will take pictures around town tomorrow and post this weekend. thank you all for your emails and support. it has been wonderful to hear from you. it gives me a taste of home. Someone wrote that I would probably not be the same when I came back. That is probably true....
- with all this excercise I was hoping I would come back a lesser person,
- but with all the wonderful bread, strudel, pastries and cream, I could come back a bigger person.
- Maybe the best I can hope for is to just "break even"
ITS OFFICIAL: I AM A LEGAL REGISTERED ALIEN IN THE CITY OF MUELLHEIM.
German city rules… any stay over 4 weeks, you must let them know when you arrive and when you leave. One of the missionaries here said German officials now have the right to find out when I blow my nose and how hard, and can ask to see the results.
HOME ALONE
I am on my own today. Sue had meetings and errands to do all day. I chose to stay home and make dinner for our guests tonight. Of course I had to walk to the grocery store carrying an empty tote bag. Then I had to remember how to get there. I knew the general direction. There are several ways to get there, one way is about 1 mile each way, the other way is about ½ mile. The route you take depends on if you get lost or not. Obviously, I have experienced both ways.
TRYING TO GET HOME!
I talked to a few people and I was able to understand most of their directions. My german vocabulary is small, but growing. In the store I was able to find almost everything I needed. I went through the checkout and paid for my food, no problem……Now, imagine 3 bags of groceries, which include a heavy bag of potatoes and apples….and imagine having to carry them home. Apparently when I was loading up my grocery cart, I did not accurately calculate my weight limitations. I should have used the airline rules…. Only 2 carryons (carry outs!!) I achingly made my way back towards the apartment and was so relieved when I saw the door to my courtyard. Breathing hard and sweating profusely, my relief was interrupted as I looked up at the 40 stairs I still had to climb. My dad will confirm, I only learn the hard way.
I'M COOKING NOW!
(Tim and DJ Johnson)I made my first complete meal this evening. Everything turned out wonderful. Could not find pie crust, so I made my apple pie without a crust! Debby Peck, a missionary from Italy, is going to teach me how to make my own pie crust. She has written the most delectable cookbook. It is recipes from Aftrica to Europe, easy to make and WOW, I have drooled through everyone of her recipes. I am having a few of her cookbooks sent to my home address. Debby uses these cookbooks as part of her fund raising. They sell for about $19 plus shipping, and they help support a missionary at the same time. I’m thinking ahead for Christmas. I will be using as gifts for several people. Since I am sending them to my home address, Freeman may have a sample copy before he leaves Sept 7, if not, they will surely be there when he gets home. You can call him to bring a copy for you to review. Just a sample recipe…..”Curried Hamburgers”. Can’t wait to try those.
That’s all for now. Going to put this over-walked body to rest.
CANDID CAMERA TIME
P.S> God is so good, while I was out today, I went to a camera shop where no English is spoken, and he helped me to relay my problem of needing a battery charger for my camera. They did not have one for sale, but they had a charger in their shop. They charged my battery for me for FREE. And said they would continue to do so until “mein USA man Kommt mit ein” (my usa man comes with one).
