Dancing Leaf
Early one morning I was outside feeding my “FreeRange” field mouser cats. Their need for attention coincides with the opening of a can of Friskies Shrimp Delight. I sat on the ground watching them consume their treats, and one or two walked by for a very brief pat on the head. A gentle breeze blew around me. Then I noticed one brown, crisp, dead leaf began dancing in the wind. It moved in the breeze, occasionally touching the ground with its stem and back up in the air, very slowly and gracefully, as though performing a choreographed ballet. I sat for 10 minutes watching this one leaf, directed so charmingly by the breeze.
I wondered why no other leaves responded to the wind the same way. The same wind blew over all the leaves…they just lay on the ground, brown, crisp, dead and seemingly paralyzed to respond to the breeze. This one dancing leaf must have been in just the right position and ready to respond when the breeze came by, and it used the opportunity to bless me with its solo dance performance.
The Holy Spirit blows a gentle breeze over his people. We need to expect and be ready for each breeze of opportunity the Lord brings to us, so we can bless others as the Holy Spirit directs our “dance”. Our usefulness to the Lord’s service is not based on our earthly circumstances. If he can take a brown, crisp, dead leaf and make it dance……. He can surely make you a blessing to others if you are prepared and waiting for the opportunity.
